Your natural tooth is saved which in turn preserves bone stimulation, strong jaw structure and strong teeth. Known as endodontic therapy, root canal is an advisable choice of treatment, particularly to limit extreme cavity.

Here are some other benefits you enjoy from root canal treatment:

  • Restore your hidden confidence
  • Remove dangers of infection or abscess
  • Improvement of your oral health

How Does Root Canal Treatment Work?

The purpose of root canal treatment is to keep as much of your decayed tooth as possible. Without immediate treatment, the pulp within the tooth continues to spread to your neighboured teeth, infecting them as well. This heightens the danger of multiple teeth becoming infected and consequently falling out. Whilst this may sound daunting, our experienced endodontists will ensure your experience of root canal treatment is as comfortable and as painless as possible. Root canal treatment is typically completed within two appointments. Upon your first visit, the endodontist must understand the severity of the damage. Here’s what to expect in a root canal procedure:

1.
2.
3.
4.
Numb the decayed area with local anaesthetic to relax your nerves, limit your discomfort and keep you comfortable.
Clear any debris from the infected area to initiate the removal of the pulp and flush any bacteria. The pulp is removed and a comprehensive clean will be completed to keep the area fresh for the root canal.
Once cleared, the gap will be sealed with a large filling as a temporary resolution whilst the crown is prepared and settles itself.
In the second appointment, once the crown is prepared and the infection has fully cleared, it’s permanently filled into the gap to restore the tooth.

I’ve Completed Root Canal Treatment – What Do I Do Next?

Once root canal treatment is complete, the chances of an infection returning are slim. The treatment maintains the strength of your surrounding teeth. The tooth needs time to settle in the mouth and therefore it is important that initial stress on the tooth is reduced. Here are some tips for root canal aftercare:

  • Eat softer and lighter foods to prevent constant biting
  • Use a soft-bristle brush and avoid brushing around the crown if pain persists
  • Attend follow-up appointments for the endodontist to keep check on the health of your root canal
  • Do not bite down on the tooth until the tooth settles
